William "Bill" Crooks
|
Age 52, of Redwood Falls died following a lingering illness on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Seasons in Redwood Falls. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from the Nelson-Martin Funeral Chapel in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from noon until 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
The Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls is handling the arrangements.
William Dean Crooks, the son of Phillip Allen Crooks and Betty Grace (Bear) Crooks, was born February 3, 1956 in Redwood Falls. He resided on the Lower Sioux Community until 1959 when he moved to Minors Oaks, California with his family. They returned to the Lower Sioux Community in 1961. Bill received his elementary schooling on the Lower Sioux Community and in Minors Oaks, and attended Morton High School. In 1972, Bill joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. Following his discharge from the Marine Corp, Bill lived in Quebec, Ontario, Canada. In 1978, he moved to Granite Falls.
On July 1, 1988, Bill married Cheri Warner at Bishop Whipple/St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church on the Lower Sioux Community. They lived on the Lower Sioux Community until moving to Redwood Falls in 2004.
Bill spent his adult life working and trapping. He enjoyed painting wildlife, playing guitar, piano and violin, singing and shooting pool.
Bill is survived by his wife Cheri Crooks of Redwood Falls; sons Derek (Cheryl) Carruth of Morton, and Josh Crooks (special friend Ali Redding) of Redwood Falls; step-daughter Angela Harms of Minneapolis; grandchildren Alex and Erykha Carruth; and step-grandson Trevor Harms. Also surviving are his brothers Steve (Betty) Crooks of Morton, Richard (Joyce) Crooks of Redwood Falls, and Phillip Victor Crooks of Morton; nieces and nephews Tonia, Wendy, Sarah, and Brian Crooks of the Morgan and Redwood Falls areas; five great-nieces; and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Paul Crooks; his step-daughter Missy Harms; and his step-father Louie Weerts.
