Ardyce Lorraine King was born June 17, 1926 in St. James to parents Walter and Hilda (Jacobs) Ahrenstorff. Ardyce was raised on the family farm in rural Butterfield and was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended school in Butterfield, graduating in 1945. Ardyce worked at a drug store, a fashion shop and a grocery store in St. James.

On September 15, 1946, Ardyce married Lorimer King and they made their home in St. James. In 1956, they moved to Redwood Falls and, in partnership, purchased and operated the Gamble Store – which later became Our Own Hardware - for 36 years.

Ardyce was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls where she was a Sunday school teacher, secretary/treasurer of the Vesper Guild Ladies Group, and helped on other church committees. In 1964, Ardyce served on the Martin Luther College, New Ulm, (now MLC) Ladies Auxiliary board as treasurer. Most dear to her heart was her family. Ardyce enjoyed traveling and was known as the “tour guide” because she loved to read about the destinations and plan the entire trip on paper first. She enjoyed cooking, relaxing at the lake, and attending auctions.

Ardyce is survived by her daughter Carol Larsen and husband Gary of Redwood Falls; grandsons Scott Larsen (Lori) of Madison, and Jarrod Larsen (Marie) of New Ulm; great-grandchildren Ashley and Zachery of Madison, and Chase of New Ulm; sisters-in-law Dorothy Ahrenstorff, Gwen Cullen, Edith King, and Marilyn King. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lorimer in 2005; and brother Harold of St. James in 2007.

Blessed be her memory.
