Ila Routhe, 88, of Redwood Falls died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 from Bethany Lutheran Church near Gilfillan with burial in Crestlawn Gardens, rural Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.
The Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls is handling the arrangements.
Ila Mae Routhe, the daughter of Frank and Edna (Kline) McNamara, was born November 23, 1919 in Prophetstown, Illinois. As an infant, she moved with her family to the Redwood Falls area. Ila received her education in Redwood Falls and graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1938.
On April 10, 1941, Ila married Knute A. Routhe and the couple settled on a farm in rural Redwood Falls where Ila was a farm wife and homemaker. She and Knute enjoyed traveling together. Ila also enjoyed fishing and well as playing Bingo and cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a big fan of Minnesota Twins baseball. Knute died on May 12, 1983 and Ila continued to live on the farm until moving into Redwood Falls in 1985.
She is survived by her children Katherine Wohlman of Kimball, Richard (Milady) Routhe of Farmington, and Kristin (Gary) Guggisberg of Morton; grandchildren Michael (Lisa) Wohlman, Kimberly (Chad) Spaulding, Lynn (Scott) Johnson, Rory (Lori) Routhe, Chad (Leslie) Routhe, Richard (Corrie) Guggisberg, Aaron (Lisa) Guggisberg, Jesse (Sarah) Guggisberg, and Nicole (Justin) Sandmann; and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Alice Green of Morgan, and Edna Loose of Los Angeles, California.
Ila was preceded in death by her husband Knute; sisters Eunice Miller Franklin, Verla Rathmanner, and Margaret Farenbaugh; and brothers Donald McNamara, and Aubrey McNamara.
